High Street Ken

There was a period of time when every Saturday Pippa and me would take the long tube journey to High Street Kensington (we felt oh so grown up and cool!) There was this big vintage store we would go to and we would try on about a million second hand jackets, shrieking with laughter when Pippa put on a big hairy one or one that made us look like Columbo. There was a staircase in the shop and we would take it in turns to stand at the bottom and say if the other one looked cool coming down the stairs in a jacket, hilarious! We used to always go to the same cafe and it was a time when Pip was able to get a hot chocolate. We would balance mini eggs (a new thing then) on a tea spoon in it until they melted inside then eat them. We would have very long and serious conversations about boys (usually always the same one). One thing Pippa and me always had problems with was going bright red for some strange reason and we would forever be in pursuit of a face powder to tone it down. One shopping trip we both spent a fortune on this Clinique green powder that was designed to tone down a flushed look. We both looked a bit red but mainly powdery and green, so funny. Other days and evenings were spent taking hours and hours to get ready to go to Woodford Wells to play pool or to hang out with friends. She was very funny with a real confident streak despite the insecurities all teenage girls have. During a difficult period I had, I lost touch with a lot of school friends including Pip. But she has often been in my thoughts and I will always love the funny blonde bombshell that was my closest friend at one time. Love Naomi x
